Barbara McCauley's Reader News

proposalOne of my readers, Melissa Lawson, shared her good news on how her fiance proposed....."He found my copy of THE WEDDING KNIGHT, by Joanne Rock, took a plastic bookmark holder and removed the bookmark and wrote his own love poem to me," Melissa says, "then he tied the ring to the tassel." After she read the poem and saw the ring, he then proposed. (He had me at the love poem, Melissa!) "LOVE IS FABULOUS," Melissa says, and I'd like to add, "WE ALL AGREE." Best of luck to you, Melissa, and keep us updated on the wedding!

I was so elated last June when my husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. My sister made my dress long distance with only measurements and it was beautiful. My family and some of my husbands and a few of our friends from church gathered and had a cookout at the church. My sister, aunts, and others helped with the decorations.

Of course part of the highlight was my oldst daughter came and sang all the songs we loved when she attended church and sang. It was a special time for us. One I will never forget.

My family made me feel so special because I survived 25 years of marriage. I have now made it 26 and it is not easier as the years pass.

I met my husband when I first came to camp as a camper.  I was asked to come back as a counselor for Jr. Teen and Sr. Teen camps.  After lunch every day was beach time.  My husband was Water Front Director.  One day a very nasty storm blow up quickly.  We got the campers sent back to camp but while I was helping him secure the wind surfers my high school graduation ring got caught on a keel and fell in the sand.

After the storm the campers in my cabin as well as the staff look.  They got a metal detector and still it couldn't be found.  Fall, winter freeze up, spring thaw and summer came again.  My husband was debating about asking me to marry him.  He prayed “God, if Melody is the person I should marry let me find her ring.”  He opening his eyes and there it was, right beside him.

When I met him on his next day off (I couldn't come to camp as the director said that girlfriends/boyfriends of staff member were not allowed), he said he had a present for me.  When we got to my parents house, where I was living, I asked him for my gift.  He said it was in his wallet.  The first words out of my mouth were “you found my ring.”  I don't know where the idea came from but that's what's it was.

We have been married for 19 years and have two boys who now attend the camp where we met.

My husband and I had been married for 15 years.  We wanted children so bad, but after years of trying, knew it just wasn't going to happen.  I had been feeling not quite well for a few months and decided to go to the doctor.  I "assumed" it was the onset of "Menopause" coming on.  The doctor asked if I could be pregnant, I laughed in her face.  My periods were always irregular, so I never thought much about it.  I had a period of some kind' every month. She told me that she'd take a test, just to be sure.

When she came back in, she had the receptionist with her.  They were both in tears.  I WAS PREGNANT!!  Come to find out . . .5 months pregnant. I went home, my husband expecting me to tell him our suspicions were correct. When I told him I was pregnant, he was speechless.  I mean he didn't say or word or move a muscle for about 10 minutes.  He thought I was joking.

The joy was interrupted when the doctor said tests she had run, showed a high possibility of birth defects.  Due to my age.  We refused to have further test ran.  We put it in God's hands and trusted him.  Whatever the results, we wanted that child, no matter what.

Well, our daughter, came into this world a perfect little baby.  She's now 6 yrs. old and the joy of our life.  Never stop believing in miracles.

Never stop praying or trusting in God.  He truly is a loving and merciful God.  I still don't know how I deserved such a precious, precious gift.

Patricia Rueb's marriage proposalLonnie and I were involved in Black Powder Rendezvous' through different clubs, when we met at a mutual friends birthday party (Aug. 25, 1990), and it was love at first site when I seen him singing and playing his guitar.  I knew he was the one for me, but kept it to myself.  Then we happened to meet again at the next Rendezvous that was held in Fresno (Oct. 6th).  They had a live band and Lonnie asked if I danced or just sat there among friends looking pretty?  Yes, I dance, and I was up on the dance floor snuggled in his arms in a heartbeat.  We danced several dances that night, and I was in heaven, floating on a cloud.  We got together the following two Saturdays, and then on Oct. 29th I moved in with him.      Lonnie being a singer & plays guitar, started up another band. The The Acceptancefollowing year when the Fresno Rendezvous came around again, Lonnie's band was asked and booked to play for the dance.  During the first set of songs, after a song, Lonnie called me up to the stage as though he needed me to do something.  I was always doing stuff for the band, so didn't think anything different about this request, until I reached the stage, and Lonnie got down on one knee, with the microphone in one hand and a ring in the other, and asked me to marry him.  I was shocked, and did say a quite "yes", but the crowd was yelling.....what did she say?  So Lonnie held the mic up to me again, and I said a big "Yes"!  Then he had his band play "My woman, My woman, My wife", which David Powers ( a band member) sings just like Marty Robbins.  It was so Beautiful.  Lonnie had this all planned out for several months, and I never had a clue.  It was the last time any band played at that Rendezvous, and Fresno Rendezvous was no more.  So Lonnie's proposal at the Fresno Rendezvous a year after we met there, is so "Special" to both of us.  Then he planned our wedding the following year, and we got married on Aug. 20th, (keeping the date within a few days of when we !st met).  I am so lucky to have a very romantic husband.
